Bobby McFerrin - The Awesome Power of One Strong Voice →

Bobby McFerrin

I have always adored Mr. Bobby McFerrin.  Since the day I won a cassette tape single of "Don't Worry Be Happy"  (1988) at my cousin's Bat Mitzvah party ( I ruled at freeze dance :) ), I've had a "thing" for his unique, jazzy and dynamic vocal style.

The performance captured in the video below, which was taken at something called !Sing Day of Song in Veltins Arena, Gelsenkirchen, Germany (I haven't been able to pin down exactly when this went down) is an awe inspiring example of the power one, clear, strong and confident voice can have to inspire.  Here you see Mr. McFerrin, sans any instrument save his voice, a microphone and a swiveling desk chair, inspire an entire stadium of people to sing together without really giving any verbal instruction (aside from "Don't clap").  He wasn't even singing lyrics that anyone could understand... just the sounds of his contagiously musical soul.  And you know what?!  They all sounded really harmonious and everyone was smiling.  So, I guess what I'm really trying to say is: Bobby McFerrin for President!  (Political conversation ends here).

Dear Mr. McFerrin,

I know we've never met but, I love you.

Hugs and kisses,
