Ari Hoenig and his boys Gilad Hekselman (guitar) and Matt Penman (bass) are jazz cats pure and true. Connected by a magnetism that allows them to move through a tune almost telepathically, their improv is seamless, creative and always cookin'. This music machine, with all its moving pieces, works!
And, not to be missed is bandleader Ari Hoenig's extremely versatile style. He uses every tool necessary to keep the rhythm (and sometimes percussive melody) moving in the right direction. Sticks, brushes, hands and elbows... Ari is gonna make it happen. And that muggin' ... Watching Ari play makes me smile every time. All that, together with Gilad's smooth and thoughtful riffing and Matt's powerful yet tuned-in grooves... they got me hooked, that's for sure.
