Today, we bid farewell to the great Gregg Allman founder, member and (after his older brother Duane was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1971), sole namesake of The Allman Brothers Band.

It's been a little while since I've spent time with the Allman's music, but now, while having my own evening of commemoration I'm remembering their deeply soulful and satisfying sound. I actually think, if I made a running tally of the bands I've seen live (a plethora of bands) The Allmans would be close to the top of the list... they always seemed to be playing The Merriweather Post Pavilion.

RIP Mr. Allman, brother, musician and all time favorite, Midnight Rider.
