GoGo Penguin, an innovative jazz trio from Manchester (one of The NY Times' "12 Notable Acts" @ SXSW '17), offers the world a beautifully balanced organic/synthesized hybrid sound. Made up of Rob Turner (drummer), Nick Blacka (double bass) and Chris Illingworth (piano) this 3-O sets free music that was inspired by software born beats and actualized thru it's warm & creaky wood, metal & skin acoustic counterparts.
Complete with hypnotic swirling piano melodies, grinding/driving bass lines and glitchy breakbeats, GoGo Penguin is acoustic electronica at its finest, if not some of its first.
Yes indeed, there's a lot to love here... not to mention that GGP has recently put out their 3rd album Man Made Object (2016, Blue Note), written and performed a new score for Godfrey Reggio’s cult film Koyaanisqatsi and collaborated with noted choreographer Lynne Page for a Gilles Peterson-curated night at the Barbican.
Their star is sooooo rising .
Give these boys a listen, your ears will be grateful for this generous gift.
